Though often decried by critics as an unforgiving religion, Judaism, in fact, has a well-developed and psychologically sensitive concept of teshuvah, repentance. Our tradition recognizes that it is both hard to ask for forgiveness and equally hard to grant it. Judaism considers repentance to be one of the building blocks of the world and a necessity for a harmonious community. In this session we shall do a close read of Rambam, [Maimonides] Hilochot Teshuvah [Laws of Repentance] and learn why Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and the Ten Days of Repentance are considered joyous opportunities for starting afresh.
